At this time, the administrative divisions of Thoubal, which were part of the former Manipur Central District, were reorganized to create a new district. In November 1983, this district was divided into Thoubal and Kakching sub-divisions, primarily including Kakching and Waikhong Tahsils(administrative units). Currently, Thoubal district is divided into three subdivisions: Thoubal, Lilong, and Kakching.
