An Insight into Thoubal Tourism

Historical information about Thoubal is limited, but we know that it was established in 1983.

At this time, the administrative divisions of Thoubal, which were part of the former Manipur Central District, were reorganized to create a new district. In November 1983, this district was divided into Thoubal and Kakching sub-divisions, primarily including Kakching and Waikhong Tahsils(administrative units). Currently, Thoubal district is divided into three subdivisions: Thoubal, Lilong, and Kakching.

The administrative center for Manipur's Thoubal district is located here. Most of the town's significant areas are situated along the Thoubal River, one of the two rivers that flow through the area (the other being the Imphal River). Thoubal district is bordered by other districts in Manipur, including Ukhrul and Chandel to the east, Senapati to the north, Imphal West and Imphal East to the west, and Churachandpur and Bishnupur to the south.

The months of March and October is the ideal time to explore Thoubal. This time of year is good for Thoubal sightseeing due to the local climate. The climate in Thoubal is generally favourable.

There are many places to visit in Thoubal, some of which are mentioned in our Thoubal travel guide. One must not miss Ikop, a stunning lake at the height of around 772 meters. It is shaped like a bowl and offers a seductive ambience that will capture your heart.

You'll want to return time and time again because of the magnificent stretch of the lush Matai garden. It was named after Ibudhou Asheiningthou, a local deity, and is also frequently referred to as the Ibudhou Asheiningthou Garden. One of Imphal's oldest palaces is called the Kangla Fort. Kangla is the word for arid terrain.

Thoubal's cuisine is heavily influenced by Manipuri cuisine. The foods are typically spicy and are made with aromatic spices.
