An Insight into Udaipur Tourism

Magical Marble-Mosaic of Palaces, Lakes and Courtyards That Are Timeless

Located aside the glistening Lake Pichola, with the Aravalli mountain stretching and embracing the surrounding, Udaipur’s romance goes unmatched inarguably. This former capital of the Mewar Kingdom, was founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559. Perfectly termed as “The City of Lakes”, Udaipur has a series of artificial lakes, decorated courtyards and is famous for its lavish royal residences.

The beautiful Pichola Lake has four islands, namely Arsi Vilas, Jag Niwas, Mohan Mandir and Jag Mandir. Amongst these, Jag Niwas houses the mersmerising Lake Palace, presently a part of which is a heritage hotel. It was from Mohan Mandir, the king watched the much revered & traditional Gangur festival. Jag Mandir island also houses a palace by the name “Jag Mandir” and interestingly, Arsi Vilas is a sanctuary - a home to various species of flora and fauna. When visiting Udaipur, go for a boat trip from the City Palace to these islands and enjoy the real beauty of this lake city. Tourists enjoy the peaceful boat rides on the lake, the colourful and lively of old-city bazaars, the quaint old-world feel in the buildings & heritage hotels and the endless temptation to shops and to eat makes for a memorable holiday at Udaipur.

The grand City Palace of Udaipur, overlooks Lake Pichola amd is made with attention to every detail. This monumental structure of 11 palaces, courtyards and gardens, is known globally for its intricate workmanship and artful peacock mosaics.

City Palace of Udaipur being one of the prime tourist attractions and more a gorgeous & graceful palace has become one of the most sought-after wedding destination weddings for the rich. The palaces, the courtyards and the lakes with the backdrop of the lofty Aravalis create a dream like backdrop for weddings.

There are some more sightseeing places here in Udaipur such as the Sajjan Garh Palace, named after Maharana Sajjan Singh of the Mewar Dynasty; the Eklingji Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva; and the Nathdwara temple of Lord Krishna. If time and energy permits or if you fel like setting apart the romanticism of Udaipur, go ahead to visit nearby places such as Kumbhalgarh, Chittorgarh, Bhangarh, Mount Abu and Jalore Wildlife Sanctuary.

Alike other cities of Rajasthan, Udaipur also celebrates its own set of traditional fairs & festivals. The prime ones being Pauri and Mewar festival. Pauri is celebrated with great zest at Trilokinath temple every year in the third week of August. Hindus and Buddhist flock in for this three days festival. A huge procession is taken out during the festival and the Fair is the best place for tourists to explore the traditional art, rituals and culture of the place. The other is the Mewar festival in Udaipur, which is observed to celebrate the arrival of spring seaason. This event is held in Bagore ki Haveli and Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal and amazing show of fireworks adds euphoria to the fair.
