Jokhang Temple: This huge building structure consists of three floors and an open roof, all dotted with chapels and chambers. The Jokhang Temple has undergone massive additions and reconstructions since the 7th century, particularly during the reign of the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. While parts of the existing temple structure date from Potala Palace Tibet's earlier times, most of the murals are from the 18th and 19th centuries, and few statues (except Joyo Sakyamuni) are older than the 1980s. The temple was sacked several times during Mongol incursions, but its worst treatment has been at the hands of the Chinese since their occupation of Tibet in 1959. The Jokhang is the most celebrated temple in Tibet. Because a particular sect of Tibetan Buddhism does not control the temple, it attracts adherents of all the sects as well as followers of Bon-Po, Tibet's indigenous religion. Three pilgrimage circuits exist in Lhasa, each directing pilgrims to the Jowo Sakyamuni statue: the Lingkhor, which encircles the city’s sacred district; the Barkhor, which encloses the Jokhang temple; and the Nangkhor, a ritual corridor inside the Jokhang. Hundreds of pilgrims daily throughout the year circumambulate each of these three circuits. Some pilgrims will cover the entire distance by prostrating every few feet, and others will walk slowly, chanting sacred mantras and spinning hand-held prayer wheels. For more than a thousand years, millions of pilgrims have trod these sacred paths with devotion in their hearts; this cumulative focus of intention and love has charged the Jokhang with an enormously powerful field of sanctity.
Barkhor Street: The center of the old Lhasa, Barkhor is a circular street, which is the oldest street in Lhasa and remains very traditional. It is a place where Tibetan Norbulinka Palace culture, economy, religion, and arts assemble and a place to which a visit must be paid. It was said that in the seventh century Songtsen Gampo, the first Tibetan King (617 or 650) who unified Tibet, married Chinese Princess Wencheng and Nepal princess Tritsun. Later, Princess Tritsun built the Jokhang Temple to accommodate the Jowo Sakyamuni, aged 12, brought to Tibet by Princess Wencheng. Barkhor is the road which pilgrims tramped out around Jokhang Temple through centuries. Buddhist pilgrims walk or progress by body lengths along the street clockwise every day into deep night. They comprise most of Lhasa's floating population.
Potala Palace: The Potala Palace was the winter palace of the Dalai Lama, which was originally built in the 7th century by King Sotsen Gampo and rebuilt to the present size by the 5th Dalai lama in the 17th century. Built in the mid-18th century by the 7th Dalai lama, Norbulingka, the Jewel Park was the Dalai lama's summer palace, it covers 100 acres with palaces, pavilions, and a zoo. Spend the night at Four Points by Sheraton or similar in Lhasa.
After breakfast in your hotel, visit Norbulinka Palace and take a drive to Shigatse, which is the 2nd largest city in Tibet. Built in 1447 by the first Dalai lama, the Tashillunpo Monastery in Shigatse is a very important monastery in China as it is known as the seat of the Panchen Lama. Hi Vidushi ,
With the grace of the Mahadev , the much awaited Kailash Manasarovar Yatra has finally been fulfilled and i stil can’t believe it !
It was such a wonderful spiritual experience , a soulful journey and divine grace and the forms that the Mahadev revealed from the Kailash is unexplainable. And during this trip was overwhelmed to connect so instantaneously with like minded pure souls .
Thank you for organising a great Yatra , providing us with the best that you could under the limited conditions prevailing there . However there are aspects that you can improve on and I shall email the suggestions directly to you .
Our gratitude to Sangam , Namhla , Jeevan and all your support staff who were extremely helpful and patient with us .
We are rather fortunate that most of us from our group were able go by the schedule as planned . Thank you Max , for organising such a blissful trip. Har Har Mahadev🙏
I recently completed my Kailash Manasarovar Yatra with Max Holidays, and it was a truly life-changing and spiritual experience. The team managed permits, visas, and logistics very smoothly, which made the entire journey stress-free. Our guides and support staff were knowledgeable, caring, and ensured safety and comfort throughout, even during the challenging high-altitude trek.
Accommodation and food in some remote areas were basic, but given the tough terrain, the arrangements were well handled. Long travel days were tiring at times, yet the staff’s constant support and encouragement made the journey easier.
Overall, Max Holidays delivered an excellent experience and created the right balance between spiritual focus and practical arrangements. I would strongly recommend them to anyone planning this sacred pilgrimage.
Note - It's my personnel request, while returning back to Nepalgunj would have been organized with lunch or snacks before leaving to Lucknow. Otherwise you have made a fantastic arrangement.

We did Kailash Yatra through max holidays this July.It was a very divine experience .As the Yatra has begun after a few years it’s difficult for everyone involved ,but sakshi was patient enough to answer our queries .After being on the tour we realised most of the things are difficult to manage in those regions including permits, visas ,food and travel itself .A special mention to our Nepali guide especially Dhan n Narayanji ..u were patient with us all through the journey. We had a lovely Darshan and a great Parikrama .Not thee perfect arrangements by max holidays but now we know better after completing it..it’s not about perfection but the joy of the journey that it was .. one to cherish lifelong .Thank you max holidays.
I had the blessing to undertake the Shri Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 with my wife and a close friend through Max Holidays in the month of Shravan. It was a truly spiritual and unforgettable journey.
The arrangements were smooth—travel, accommodation, meals, and safety checks were well managed. Of course, there were some challenges on the way, but we were well informed about them in advance, and they are naturally part of this sacred journey.
A heartfelt thanks to Nimisha and Sakshi from Max Holidays for their wonderful support and constant guidance, which made the experience far more comfortable and memorable.
Overall, it was a life-changing Yatra, and I would strongly recommend Max Holidays to anyone planning this divine pilgrimage.
