Spend some quality time in Negombo, a popular fishing village which is located in the north of Colombo. A Dutch-build canal is a major attraction here. Your next halt is Anuradhapura, an ancient ruined city. While in Anuradhapura, you'll see a number of historical buildings along with the sacred Bo Tree, which is believed to have been planted around 2,250 years ago and is associated with Gautam Buddha. Head to Sigiriya which has the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other tourist attractions in Sigiriya include frescoes of the 'Heavenly Maidens', the Lion Rock and the Sigiriya Rock. Make a visit to the Dambulla Cave Temple whose history dates back to the 1st century. Get ready to step into the cultural capital of Sri Lanka – Kandy. During your city tour of Kandy, explore floral species in the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden and visit the 'Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic', a Buddha temple. Proceed to Nuwara Eliya where you'll be surrounded with bounties of nature – mountains, valleys and waterfalls. Also take a tea plantation tour before heading to the much famed Yala National Park. The wildlife sanctuary is home to the Sri Lankan elephants and a variety of aquatic birds. Spend some time in solitude and have fun at the Galle beach. The Galle Fort and the Galle Lighthouse are two major ancient attractions that you should visit here. Fly back home.

Itinerary

  • Day 01 : Arrival Colombo

    Reach Sri Lanka by flight and arrive at Colombo airport. On arrival take a short 45 minutes drive to Minuwangoda. Settle down in the resort and go for a tour in Negombo. Negombo is a famous fishing village in the north of Colombo, with a Dutch built canal. The canal itself is a hive of activity with all the fishermen traveling up and down in their gaily-painted boats. Enjoy watching the houses and a variety of birds including Kingfisher and Parrots. An optional Catamaran trips in the sea can be organized on demand.

  • Day 02 : Anuradhapura

    Anuradhapura is known as the most celebrated ancient ruined city of Sri Lanka. The dagabas or stupas, constructed of small sun-dried bricks and hemispherical in shape are the greatest treasures of the place, out of which Ruvanveli (dating back to the 2nd Century BC, 300ft in diameter) is the most noticeable Dagabas. Jetawanarama (370 ft, it is significant in recorded history as one of the tallest structures in the ancient world) and the Thuparama which enshrines the collarbone of the Buddha are also very famous among the travelers visiting here. The sacred Bo Tree, planted 2250 years ago is the oldest historic tree in the world. It is said that it has grown from a branch of tree under which Buddha sat and gained enlightenment. On the way visit the 'Elephant Orphanage' at Pinnawala.

  • Day 03 : Sigiriya

    Proceed to Sigiriya to visit the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD) this is a World Heritage Site now. The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the 'Heavenly Maidens' of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster. Here you can climb the Sigiriya Rock.

  • Day 04 : Dambulla Cave Temple

    A vast isolated 500 ft high rock mass with a mile around the base, the Dambula rock is famous Rock Temple dating to the 1st Century BC. The caves of Dambulla sheltered the King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura. It is said that the most magnificent of rock temples found on the island were made after he gained the throne.

  • Day 05 : Kandy

    Head to Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. On the way visit spice garden in Matale. you can enjoy many activities in the spice garden. Rest of the time free at Kandy.

  • Day 06 : Kandy

    A city tour of Kandy will take you to the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden, begun as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala King, with its amazing variety of trees plants and flowers Sixty Seven hectares of exquisite beauty and botanical treasurers containing more than 4000 species, this is haven not only for the scientists but to every nature lover as well. In the evening you will visit the 'Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic'. This is a Buddhist temple located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha.

  • Day 07 : Nuwara Eliya

    Drive to Nuwara Eliya, know as the 'Little England' of Sri Lanka. It is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. Nuwara Eliya is supposed to be one of the coldest places on Sri Lankan island. Evidence of the British influence can be seen easily all around the city. Also visit tea factory and tea plantation in Nuwara Eliya and then back to the hotel for leisurely stay.

  • Day 08 : Yala National Park

    Go on jungle safari in Yala National Park today. Yala is the second largest national park of Sri Lanka and it consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public. Designed as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 the park is best known for its variety of wild animals. It is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants and aquatic birds.

  • Day 09 : Galle

    After breakfast head to Galle to enjoy the beach stay. Situated on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, Galle is a majour city of Sri Lankan island. Enjoy leisurely time while exploring the beach.

  • Day 10 : Galle

    While you enjoy the beautiful galle beach stay do not forget to pay a visit to Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle. The fort was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. Even after more than four centuries the fort maintains a polished appearance. The Galle Lighthouse is Sri Lanka's oldest lighthouse dating back to 1848. The lighthouse is within the walls of the ancient Galle Fort.

  • Day 11 : Colombo

    After breakfast proceeds to Colombo where you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city visiting 100 year old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Also visit the Pettah Bazaar, where one can shop for bargain, a Hindu and a Buddhist temple, residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent, Colombo Museum, the new Parliament and the Dutch Museum.

  • Day 12 : Depart Colombo

    After breakfast you will be transferred to Bandaranayake international airport for departure to onward destination.
