Surround Yourself with World-Renowned, Dravidian-Style Temples

As the cultural lines between the north and south India are well defined and distinct historically, but are rather significant and clearly visible from the architecture found in the temples of South India. The temples of south India are rather a big attraction for tourist for their massiveness and Dravidian architecture involved in making them. The style of South Indian Temple construction is entirely different from Persian and Victorian Style of architecture.

South Indian temples generally have a large gopuram, a monumental tower at the entrance of the temple making them a major feature of Koils, Hindu temples of the Dravidian style. At the top there exists a bulbous stone finial.

Among the different forms of temple architecture in the South, the most important one are found in Tamil Nadu. The Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai is a famous temple there. The temples around Kancheepuram are noticeable whereas Shore Temple in Mamallapuram is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some other south Indian temples are Nataraja temple at Chidambaram, the Sri Ranganathaswami Temple at Srirangam, the Brihadeshvara Temple of Thanjavur, Brihadeshvara Temple of Gangaikonda Cholapuram and the Airavatesvara Temple of Darasuram and others.
