The fascinating city of Kathmandu is the most famous and largest city of Nepal. It is also the capital city of Nepal. It is a blend of old culture and new world. The city of Kathmandu is full of temples, shrines and many historic monuments including few UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is also the starting point for adventure activities in Nepal Himalayas. Today during the sightseeing trip of Kathmandu we visit Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa and Patan Darbar Square. Later also visit the untouched 21st century towns of Bungamati and Khokana. Enjoy cultural activities and dinner in a local restaurant in Kathmandu.
After breakfast take flight to Lhasa (3650m) commonly referred as the ‘Roof of The world’. In the northeast of the Himalayas on the highest Tibetan Plateau the region of Tibet is known for glittering turquoise lakes, huge plains, high passes, old culture and breathtaking scenic beauty. Lhasa is the largest and most famous city of Tibet. Today you will have day free in Lhasa for acclimatization.
Home to his holiness Dalai Lama until the 1950, Lhasa is an enchanting capital town of Tibet Autonomous Region. During the next two days of your stay in Lhasa you will explore some of the most beautiful and interesting sites of Lhasa. About 2 kms North of Lhasa the Sera monastery is a complex of about 19 hermitages. It is one of the most famous universities for Buddhist monks for learning scriptures. Further 5 kms South of Sera Monastery is the famous Jokhang Temple which is considered to be the holiest shrine in entire Tibet. The beautiful architecture of the temple is a blend of Hindu, Tibetan and Nepalese design.
Today after breakfast visit the Potala Palace which is situated atop a red mountain and was once the house of Tibetan religious and political figure Dalai Lama until 1959 when Tenzin Gyatso the 14th Dalai Lama left to India due to Tibetan uprising. Also visit Drepung Monastery which is one of the most reputed universities for studying and practicing Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Established in 1416 located about 5 kms west of Lhasa at the foot of Gambo Utse mountain Drepung monastery was once the largest monastery in the world.

Enjoy the scenic journey to Gyantse this morning. The road condition is good and the drive takes you through some incredibly beautiful sites. Enroute visit Yamdrok Tso Lake which is one of the most famous holy lakes of Tibet with turquoise blue water. You will be travelling through Kambala Pass (4794m) and Karola Pass (5010m). Upon reaching at Gyantse check in at your hotel.
Once known as the third largest town of Tibet, situated on historic Indo-Tibetan trade route Gyantse is famous for unique Tibetan architecture of 15th century Kumbun Chorten and Phelkor Chode Monastery. After sightseeing of Gyantse continue a 2.5 hours drive to Shigatse.
Shigatse means ‘the fertile land’. It is the second largest town of Tibet offering cultural history dating back to over 600 years. Shigatse retains its importance for its location as it is situated about 150 kms from world’s highest peak Mount Everest. Take a bumpy ride towards Xegar via Lhatse and visit the fortress of Xegar or Shelar Dzong. This point is the starting point for many expeditions and is known as base of Mount Everest (8848m).
After relaxed breakfast drive to Rongbuk monastery which is world’s highest Tibetan temple at a height of about 5000m above sea level. From here one can have spectacular view of the Mt. Everest. Further we will visit the base camp of Mount Everest which is also the start point for many other world renowned expeditions in Himalayan mountains. After spending some time we drive through Lamna La Pass (5150m) to reach Old Tingri (4250m). Spend night in your camp at EBC.
This morning we will leave Tibet region as we start our journey downhill to Nepal. At Lalung La Pass (5050m) you will have some spectacular views of Himalayan ranges and Mount Everest. Continue to Nepal’s border town of Kodari along lush forested windy and narrow roads mountain sides.You will cross the last Tibetan town of Zhangmu before entering into Nepal. One can enjoy bungee jumping activities near Kodari to feel more adventurous. Here stay will be either in a guest house or a tent.
Take a drive to the medieval city of Bhaktapur this morning. Bhaktapur even after being very close to Kathmandu seems to be a different world. It is known for its finely preserved historic sites. Bhaktapur is often referred as the “Living Heritage” of Nepal and “Nepal’s Cultural Gem”. Unfortunately 2015 earthquake in Nepal has destroyed many historic sites at Bhaktapur but life at Bhaktapur is back to normal and the sites may be restored. Visit the pagodas, temples and shrines at Bhaktapur.
Visit some local families and enjoy some pottery making activities before you leave for Kathmandu. Check into your hotel and explore the town and markets of Kathmandu on your own.
