Scaling up a height of 21,778 feet, Mount Kailash (Kailash in Sanskrit) is a lot more than just a mountain. According to Hindu traditions, it's the abode of Lord Shiva. That's why a journey to this Trans Himalayan mountain has extreme spiritual significance. Not just by the Hindus, but Mount Kailash is held in high regard by hundreds of thousands of people from all across the world and other religions like Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon. Like Mount Kailash, Lake Manasarovar is also a revered site of Hindu pilgrimage. The lake lies to the north of Mount Kailash. Together, they constitute the very popular Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which carries extreme spiritual value – both in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. After your arrival in Lucknow, undertake a road journey to Nepalgunj, which is located in Nepal. Next day, get ready to reach the Nepalgunj airport, from where you'll fly to Simikot. Arrive at Simikot and then get to Taklakot, which is a good place to warm yourself up with some light trekking adventure. Later, drive to the holy Lake Mansarovar, a one-hour road journey from Taklakot. Feast your eyes on the heart-stirring sights of Mount Kailash from near Lake Manasarovar. You'll have enough time to explore what surrounds Lake Mansarovar. Next, be prepared for a short drive to Darchen, which is the place from where pilgrims begin their parikrama of Mount Kailash. You'll have the freedom whether you want to go on the parikrama or not. If not, then you can wait for the other members to complete their parikrama and get back. Enjoy wonderful trekking tours during your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra – from the easiest to the hardest. After quenching your thirst for adventure and spirituality, get back to Taklakot. Finally, get back to Lucknow following the same route through which you came.
Read MoreIn the morning, meet with our driver and other travellers at a designated point in Lucknow to continue the drive to Nepalgunj, Nepal. On the way, stop at the midway for tea/coffee and lunch. Later, continue the drive to Nepalgunj, and on arrival, check into your hotel/guest house for a night stay. Nepalgunj is a tiny border town of Nepal that offers many small hotels and guest houses with basic amenities for travelers. Though few good hotels are available here with 3* facilities, the availability always depends on the rush of travellers and the operation of flights to/from Simikot.
Early morning, after breakfast, the group will be taken to the Nepalgunj airport, where the travellers will board their scheduled flight to Simikot on a fixed-wing aircraft.
Evening free to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Simikot.
In the morning, the group will get a helicopter that will ferry the group to Hilsa, which has a non-metallic airstrip. In small helicopters, a maximum of 6 travellers can fly to Hilsa in one flight. One needs to wait for his/her turn. On arrival at Hilsa, after finishing the customs and immigration formalities (it usually takes 2-3 hours or longer), our sherpa team will escort the group on a 25-minute walk to Sher, a tiny settlement inside the Tibet border. From here, the group will drive to their guest house/hotel in Taklakot (Burang). On arrival at Taklakot (Burang) check into the hotel/guesthouse. Spend time acclimatizing to the harsh weather of the place. Dinner and night stay at Taklakot guest house/hotel.
All meals and stay will be at Taklakot today. The group members will acclimatize today. Alternatively, the group members may choose to go to local markets nearby to buy some fruits, eatables, and other items as may be required. It is advisable to do some light trekking practice at Taklakot. Ask your guide to organize it for you.
This morning, after breakfast, drive from Taklakot to holy Lake Mansarovar. Today, the pilgrims will have the first glimpse of holy Mount Kailash on their Kailash Mansarovar trekking tour while driving from Taklakot to Lake Mansarovar. From Taklakot it takes about one and a half hours from Taklakot to reach Lake Mansarovar. On the way, also see the Rakshas Tal (Lake of Demons). If time permits, we will take a short stop here. On reaching Lake Mansarovar, we stay at a guest house near Chui Gompa and relax there for some time, exploring the beauty of nature around the lake. The group members will have sufficient time to worship, do some meditation in the peaceful atmosphere, and take a short walk along the beautiful Lake Mansarovar. At your own cost, you may perform puja, havan, etc, near the lake. There is a large no. of travellers/pilgrims who wish to stay near Lake Mansarovar during the full moon since it is considered to be more auspicious to pray and take a dip in Lake Mansarovar during full moon time. Travelling to Kailash Mansarovar on full moon yatra dates sometimes becomes a tough experience due to the heavy rush of pilgrims and suddenly changing climatic conditions. One must know that the full moon darshan of Kailash Mansarovar is always weather-permitted. That night we will have a stay and food near Lake Mansarovar.
* It is to be noted that here, Holy Lake Mansarovar is the only source of water. This water is used for drinking, making food, bathing, and even for washing clothes. But it is strictly prohibited to indulge you in such activities which pollute the water of the holy Lake Mansarovar.
The group will have a light breakfast before starting a short drive to Darchen / Tarboche, which is the starting point of Kora (parikrama) of holy Mount Kailash. The vehicle will drop the group near Tarboche, from where the pilgrims will start the parikrama from Yam Dwar. It is said that one who crosses this gate will free himself/herself from all sins of his/her life and give a start to a new life. If any pilgrim wishes to hire a Yak/Horse and/or a porter can do it here only. Start Mt. Kailash parikrama from Darchen to Dirapukh. On the way, you will come across many beautiful sites and some water bodies. It is also considered in many faiths that one who completes the kora of Mount Kailash gets rid of the life circle and goes to heaven after death. From Yam Dwar and during the start of Mt. Kailash Kora, the pilgrims will see the South face of Mount Kailash. On reaching Derapukh, stay in the guest house. Dirapukh is the place from where you will have the closest view of the North face of Mt. Kailash. This is the most important day of the yatra for pilgrims as they will see the beautiful Mt. Kailash under the glazing stars at night (weather permitting). In the morning, the stunning view of 'Golden Kailash' will leave everyone speechless when they see the run rays arriving on Mt. Kailash first and then covering the mount with golden light. The view and feeling is so spiritual that it cannot be explained in words. One must experience it. Night stay at a guest house near Mt. Kailash at Dirapuk.
Important note: Yatris, who is not willing to go for the Mt. Kailash parikrama, will return to Darchen / Mansarovar from here and will wait for the other group members in their guest house.
After having the darshan of Lord Shiva in the stunning view of 'Golden Kailash' the group will proceed for their second-day trek of Mt. Kailash towards Zuthulpukh. This is the toughest day of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and trekking of Mt. Kailash as the pilgrim will be crossing the highest point, 5650 m (19500 feet), at Dolma La pass. Ascend and descend near Dolma La Pass is rocky and steep and can become even tougher and slippery during rain or snowfall. One needs to be even extra careful during the Dolma La trek. Though it is advisable not to sit on a horse or yak during a trek near Dolma La to avoid an accident, many travellers who are not able to perform this challenging trek use a mule during ascending and descending. The pilgrims are suggested to walk slowly and stay together so that help may reach them faster in the case of need. On crossing Dolma La, the pilgrims will have a beautiful view of 'Gauri Kund' (The lake of Compassion). This beautiful lake is also described in Hindu Purana as 'Parvati Sarovar'. From here, the trek will be more pleasant, mainly on the gentle ground. Reach Zuthulpukh in the night and stay in the guesthouse.
This is the last day of Mt. Kailash parikrama. The group will trek back to Darchen, where the vehicles are waiting for them to transport them to Taklakot. Pilgrims who did not perform the Kora of Mt. Kailash will be picked up from the guest house and will drive back to Taklakot with the group. The trek from Zuthulpukh to Darchen is about 08 km and roughly takes 3-4 hours. Drive through Lake Mansarovar and complete the parikrama of the lake by vehicle. On reaching Taklakot, stay at the guesthouse.
In the morning, we take an early drive to the Chinese border, where, after completing the immigration formalities, we will walk to Hilsa. At Hilsa, the regular helicopter service will ferry the group members to Simikot, and then we connect them with regular flights to Nepalgunj. On reaching Nepalgunj, drive back to Lucknow, where the Kailash Mansarovar yatra tour package will commence.

Hi Vidushi ,
With the grace of the Mahadev , the much awaited Kailash Manasarovar Yatra has finally been fulfilled and i stil can’t believe it !
It was such a wonderful spiritual experience , a soulful journey and divine grace and the forms that the Mahadev revealed from the Kailash is unexplainable. And during this trip was overwhelmed to connect so instantaneously with like minded pure souls .
Thank you for organising a great Yatra , providing us with the best that you could under the limited conditions prevailing there . However there are aspects that you can improve on and I shall email the suggestions directly to you .
Our gratitude to Sangam , Namhla , Jeevan and all your support staff who were extremely helpful and patient with us .
We are rather fortunate that most of us from our group were able go by the schedule as planned . Thank you Max , for organising such a blissful trip. Har Har Mahadev🙏
I recently completed my Kailash Manasarovar Yatra with Max Holidays, and it was a truly life-changing and spiritual experience. The team managed permits, visas, and logistics very smoothly, which made the entire journey stress-free. Our guides and support staff were knowledgeable, caring, and ensured safety and comfort throughout, even during the challenging high-altitude trek.
Accommodation and food in some remote areas were basic, but given the tough terrain, the arrangements were well handled. Long travel days were tiring at times, yet the staff’s constant support and encouragement made the journey easier.
Overall, Max Holidays delivered an excellent experience and created the right balance between spiritual focus and practical arrangements. I would strongly recommend them to anyone planning this sacred pilgrimage.
Note - It's my personnel request, while returning back to Nepalgunj would have been organized with lunch or snacks before leaving to Lucknow. Otherwise you have made a fantastic arrangement.

We did Kailash Yatra through max holidays this July.It was a very divine experience .As the Yatra has begun after a few years it’s difficult for everyone involved ,but sakshi was patient enough to answer our queries .After being on the tour we realised most of the things are difficult to manage in those regions including permits, visas ,food and travel itself .A special mention to our Nepali guide especially Dhan n Narayanji ..u were patient with us all through the journey. We had a lovely Darshan and a great Parikrama .Not thee perfect arrangements by max holidays but now we know better after completing it..it’s not about perfection but the joy of the journey that it was .. one to cherish lifelong .Thank you max holidays.
I had the blessing to undertake the Shri Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 with my wife and a close friend through Max Holidays in the month of Shravan. It was a truly spiritual and unforgettable journey.
The arrangements were smooth—travel, accommodation, meals, and safety checks were well managed. Of course, there were some challenges on the way, but we were well informed about them in advance, and they are naturally part of this sacred journey.
A heartfelt thanks to Nimisha and Sakshi from Max Holidays for their wonderful support and constant guidance, which made the experience far more comfortable and memorable.
Overall, it was a life-changing Yatra, and I would strongly recommend Max Holidays to anyone planning this divine pilgrimage.
