  • The Homeland of Royal Bengal Tigers

  • This 2585 sq. km. Sundarbans National Park in West Bengal, India is the home to the Royal Bengal tigers and has the largest concentrations of this carnivore. Sundarbans National Park and Sundarbans Tiger Reserve together for the Sundarban delta. This river delta is the world’s largest network of semi-submerged mangroves and channels. The ecosystem here is adjacent to the Sundarbans Delta in Bangladesh, across the international border but along the same shoreline. Tigers move stealthily in the deep dense & impervious mangrove forests and swim in the innumerable channels of the delta. Nevertheless, sailing through the broad waterways of this world’s biggest mangrove sanctuary, which is presently a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and watching wildlife in their natural settings, be it a Gangetic Dolphins, Saltwater Crocodiles or those shining kingfishers, is an entirely different experience of lifetime.

  • Forest here has the maximum number of Sundari trees and Sundarbans name is a derived from these trees. This eco-system personifies wilderness characterized by meandering rivers, creeks, estuaries, and springs. The Tiger Reserve is the home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, a nearly extinct species that are often man-eaters and can swim in saline water. Sundarbans history dots back to 200–300 AD. The entire Sundarbans has 64 varieties of Mangroves including Sundari, Goran, Kankra, Dhundal, Passur, Garjanand Genwa. Nilkamalor Hiron Point and Katka viewpoints are must see places here for the fantastic views of animals in the wilderness. Tourists often make to the mud-flats called Chargheri Char to enjoy coastal trekking.
