An Insight into Mirik Tourism

Blessed by Nature with Beautiful Places & People

Mirik is a calm & peaceful hill town in northern West Bengal, India. Settled around a huge lake, Mirik is said to increase North Bengal's ampleness. The name Mirik is derived from the Lepcha words “Mir-Yok”, which means "place burnt by fire". Set amidst the Himalayan foothills, Mirik has much more to offer than picturesque mountains and lakes. Its pleasant climate, natural beauty, flower & fruit orchards, tea gardens and accessibility has made this place a favorite getaway. Moreover, it is not as crowed as the popular hill stations of the region, thus making it a place to relax. The major attraction is the Sumendu Lake, at the center of the town. This is a man-made lake surrounded by beautifully done & well-manicured garden on one side and tall sky kissing pine trees on the other. The both sides are linked by a fascinating arch shaped footbridge called Indreni Pull in local language, meaning Rainbow Bridge. The view of Kanchenjunga, far on the horizon on a clear sky makes any tourist’s day. Also boating on the lake and pony rides are also available to allure tourist.

This place is all about natural beauty amidst serene locales. The prime sightseeing places here in Mirik are Sumendu Lake & the Indreni Pull, Rameetay Dara viewpoint, Bokar Monastery - a Buddhist meditation center, Rai Dhap - the drinking water source for Mirik and a picnic spot, Debisthan temple of a Hindu goddess, Tingling View Point, Tea Gardens , Orange Orchards, Orchids Gardens, Bunkulung, Pasupati Nagar - border market with Nepal, Mirik Church, Swiss Cottage, and a must see is the Sunrise Point for spectacular views of the sun rising in the east and Kanchanjunga, in the north, shimmering with it its reflection on it.

Mirik is all set to embrace tourist with beautiful sightseeing options, comfortable stay and warm people. It is also one of the most preferred honeymoon destination of West Bengal. The place is not over crowded so offers those quiet moments that one seeks for in any hill station, and this makes Mirik different.
