Interestingly, Hoogli city is the capital of the Hooghly district and lies on the bank of Hooghly River! Around 50 km from Kolkata, Hooghly is in West Bengal state of India. River Hooghly, is the Ganga River, as is called here, is the lifeline and also predominated the landscape of this place; to such an extent that people make use of ferries and boats to communicate between different towns.

Hooghly is popular for its deep rooted history and heritage. Chinsurah was ruled by the Dutch from 1656 to 1825 and later in 1825 the Dutch exchanged it with British for the British-held Indonesian island of Sumatra.
