One called as Saketa, Ayodhya, in Uttar Pradesh, is an age-old city of India and ardently believed to be the birthplace of Maryada Purushottam Sri Rama and the place of the epic Ramayana. History also establishes that this place is also sacred to the Buddhists and Jains. Based on the banks of river Saryu, Ayodhya was the capital of the bygone Kingdom of Kosala. As it is the birthplace of Shri Rama, Ayodhya is one of the seven most important Hindu pilgrimage. It is also believed that a wonderful temple was built on the birth spot of Sri Ram, which was later demolished by Babur the Mughal emperor and a mosque was built there on his orders.
