Kanyakumari, India's southern tip, is a coastal town in the state of Tamil Nadu. This place was called Cape Comorin by the British and is very popular for spectacular sunrise and sunset views over the ocean. Kanyakimari, as a name comes from the Devi Kanya Kumari Temple here. Fringed by the Laccadive Sea on three sides, Kanyakumari town is the southern tip of the popular Cardamom Hills, which is an extension of the Western Ghats. The Gandhi Mandapam, whose design & architecture was influenced by the Sun Temple in Odisha, is a popular sightseeing point. It is the spot where Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were kept in an urn before being immersed in the ocean.
