Indian Architecture tour from Mumbai
Dig Deep into the Religious History of India and Discover Beautiful Temple Architecture
India is a country that’s been deeply spiritual. No matter where you are headed in the country, you’ll find that religion is like oxygen. The entire country is dispersed with a large number of temples - from old to the most ancient. The North and Central India in particular feature numerous temples that speak volumes about the architectural brilliance of the past. Many of the ancient temple sites in the country have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. If you are interested in exploring ancient temples and the temple architecture, India is truly a place to visit over and over again.
After spending some great time in the cities of Mumbai and Aurangabad, head straight to the temples of Ajanta and Ellora. Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the history of the Ajanta caves date back 800 years. If you want to gain an insight into the life of Buddha, these caves are a must-visit. Many of these temples feature beautifully decorated interiors and exquisite murals. The Ellora Caves, on the other hand, were erected between the 5th and 7th century. Also visit the Kailasha Temple before travelling to Delhi for a sightseeing tour, and your flight to Varanasi. The holy city of Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) is known for its numerous Hindu temples, ghats and of course the Ganges. Take an early morning boat ride along the Ganges to soak up some wonderful sights. Witness the architecture of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the Bharat Mata Temple and the Durga Temple among many other Hindu temples.
Next day, fly to Khajuraho which was once the capital of the Chandela dynasty. The Khajuraho Temples, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, have been divided into three groups or categories - The western group, Eastern group and Southern group. Explore each group of temples for their history, beauty and uniqueness. Travel to Agra, the ‘City of Taj’ next and view the Taj Mahal at its charming best. Visit the Mughal town of Fatehpur Sikri en route. After a full-day sightseeing of Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’, drive back to Delhi for your connecting flight.
