Dig Deep into the Religious History of India and Discover Beautiful Temple Architecture

India is a country that’s been deeply spiritual. No matter where you are headed in the country, you’ll find that religion is like oxygen. The entire country is dispersed with a large number of temples - from old to the most ancient. The North and Central India in particular feature numerous temples that speak volumes about the architectural brilliance of the past. Many of the ancient temple sites in the country have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. If you are interested in exploring ancient temples and the temple architecture, India is truly a place to visit over and over again. After spending some great time in the cities of Mumbai and Aurangabad, head straight to the temples of Ajanta and Ellora. Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the history of the Ajanta caves date back 800 years. If you want to gain an insight into the life of Buddha, these caves are a must-visit. Many of these temples feature beautifully decorated interiors and exquisite murals. The Ellora Caves, on the other hand, were erected between the 5th and 7th century. Also visit the Kailasha Temple before travelling to Delhi for a sightseeing tour, and your flight to Varanasi. The holy city of Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) is known for its numerous Hindu temples, ghats and of course the Ganges. Take an early morning boat ride along the Ganges to soak up some wonderful sights. Witness the architecture of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the Bharat Mata Temple and the Durga Temple among many other Hindu temples. Next day, fly to Khajuraho which was once the capital of the Chandela dynasty. The Khajuraho Temples, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, have been divided into three groups or categories - The western group, Eastern group and Southern group. Explore each group of temples for their history, beauty and uniqueness. Travel to Agra, the ‘City of Taj’ next and view the Taj Mahal at its charming best. Visit the Mughal town of Fatehpur Sikri en route. After a full-day sightseeing of Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’, drive back to Delhi for your connecting flight.

Itinerary

  • Day 01 : Arrive Mumbai

    On your arrival at Mumbai International airport, you will be met by our representative, who will meet you, and assist you to your hotel for an overnight stay.

  • Day 02 : Mumbai

    After an early breakfast at hotel, we will proceed towards the full day sightseeing tour of Mumbai. We will start the tour with Gateway of India, which was the entrance of the governors during the British Raj, here we will board the boat jetty (on sharing basis), which will take us to the Elephnata caves – a rock cut temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Return to the port from where we will drive to Prince of Wales museum also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, which is a home of sculptures, historical artefacts, European paintings, Chinese and Japanese antiques and much more. From here, we will drive to Flora Fountain famous for the fountain which lightens up at the night and the Victorian style buildings surrounded. Drive through the Mumbai High Court and the Old Secretariat –the government buildings. Also visit to the Dhobi Ghat - an open laundry to see how Indian washer man washes the clothes. Later afternoon, we will visit to Kamala Nehru Park and Hanging gardens, which offers the spectacular view at the time of sunset. Evening spend your time at leisure on the Juhu and Chowpatty beaches, it comes more lively during evenings, you can see the local crowd and also taste the local delicacies at the stalls.

  • Day 03 : Mumbai - Aurangabad (flight)

    Morning is free to explore the beautiful city on the water. Afternoon, transfer you to the airport to board your flight to Aurangabad. On arrival at Aurangabad, check into your hotel. Overnight stay in the hotel

  • Day 04 : Excursion to Ajanta & Ellora

    After breakfast, we will visit to the Ajanta caves, which are declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. These caves display aspects of Buddha’s life. In 1819 a small group of British troops were led to the spot, and upon closer inspection saw the façade of a cave protruding through the dense foliage. Ultimately a total of 28cavern shrines were found, many with interiors adorned with a swirling profusion of vibrant multi colored murals - paintings that rank among India's most beautiful treasures. These Buddhist caves predate Ellora and span a period of 800 years. Return to Aurangabad hotel for night stay.

  • Day 05 : Aurangabad - Delhi (Flight)

    After early breakfast, we will drive to Ellora caves. These caves are made up of volcanic rock in 5th-7th century. These caves are consisting of 34 caves representing Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jain. These caves are the fine example of architecture and sculptures. After caves, we head towards the Kailasha temple – dedicated to lord Shiva, like a one at Mount Kailash. Later you will be transferred to the airport to board your flight to Delhi. On arrival at Delhi, get an assisted transfer to your hotel for overnight stay

  • Day 06 : Delhi Sightseeing

    Today we proceed on a full day guided sightseeing of Old and New Delhi, visiting Red Fort built by Shah Jahan who held his first Durbar here on 18th April 1648 AD. Jama Masjid (Jumma Mosque) near the Red Fort is the biggest mosque in India and perhaps in the whole world. Other places of interests are Lotus Temple, Birla Temple and national museum. Also visit New Delhi, Qutab Minar, Quwat ul Islam mosque and Iron Pillar. Humayun’s tomb built in Red sandstone built by Akbar between 1565-1580 AD. From outside see President’s House which was formerly the Governor General’s residence of colonial India. In front of President’s House is India Gate a memorial of soldiers who lost their lives in World War I and Afghan war. Overnight at the hotel.

  • Day 07 : Delhi - Varanasi (Flight)

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your morning flight to Varanasi. Meeting and assistance upon arrival at Varanasi airport and you will be transfer to your hotel.

    Varanasi is one of the oldest cities of India, also called Kashi, one of the religious places that every Hindu must visit. The city is a blend of history, culture, religion, art and craft. The most attractive part of the city is the ganges of holy river Ganga.

    Afternoon, proceed with the sightseeing of Varanasi starting with the Sarnath known as one of the places where the Buddha delivered his first sermon. Here we will visit the Sarnath museum, Dhamekha Stupa. Overnight stay is in Varanasi.

  • Day 08 : Varanasi sightseeing

    Early morning at sunrise, we will visit to the ghats where we will take a boat ride at the Ganges, to explore the local activities taking place at the temples and ghats. You will here see the people taking the holy dips in the ganges, with the believe of elimination of their sins. We will see the burning ghat, where the death ceremony takes place along with the burning dead bodies. Visit to the Kashi Vishwanath temple located on the western bank of holy river Ganges. The devotees visit the temple to view the jyotirlinga of Shiva, which is believed to be a soul cleansing. Later return back to hotel for breakfast, and proceed to visit to the Bharat Hindu University, where we will visit the Bharat Kala Bhavan which is an art museum housing paintings, sculptures of Buddhism and Hinduism, archaeology gallery etc. Also visit the Bharat Mata Temple only temple dedicated to Mother of India, and Durga temple also known as the monkey temple. Evening get your cameras ready to click the thousand of pictures, as we will be visitng the Dasaswamedh Ghat to attend the evening arti. The whole atmosphere will sing with the tone of bells and enchanting mantras along with the long lamps.

  • Day 09 : Varanasi - Khajuraho (Flight)

    Following a leisurely morning, you will be transferred to the airport to board your flight to Khajuraho famous for its group of temples dedicated to Hindus and Jains. On arrival at Khajuraho, check into your hotel.

  • Day 10 : Khajuraho sightseeing

    After breakfast, we proceed for a sightseeing tour of Khajuraho, the capital of the Chandela dynasty. The group of temples are divided into three categories – The western group, Eastern group and Southern group. In the Western group, which is consist of Kandariya Mahadev, Chaunsat Yogini (granite temple), Devi Jagadambe Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu) and Chitragupta temple (dedicated to Lord of Sun - Suryaa). Eastern Group consist of Hindu and Jain temples in which the most famous is Parswanath (Jain) temple, and another is Ghantai temple. Hindu temples are Brahma, Vamana and Javari temples, where the sensuous and erotic temple lies. In southern group, we see the Chaturbhuj Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu) and Duladeo Temple.

    Evening we will enjoy the ‘sound and light show’ at the western group of temples representing the story of Chandela Kings. Later return back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

  • Day 11 : Khajuraho - Agra (Flight)

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Agra, on arrival, get an assisted transfer to the hotel. After wash and change, we proceed to the sightseeing of Agra Fort. It was built by Emperor Akbar in 1654, since then many changes has been done by the successors of Akbar specially Shah Jahan. Its architecture and marble work make it a must visit site. Last visit Itmad-Ud-Daulad Tomb popularly known as Baby Taj. This tomb shows the unexceptional love of Noor Jahan for his father Mirza Ghiyas Beg who was the Chief Minister of Emperor Jahangir. At the sunset, we will visit to the Taj Mahal, to view the beauty of Taj Mahal in moon light.

    In the evening come back to your hotel in Agra for night stay.

    Optional : You can visit to view a Mohobbat e Taj show – a blend of dance and drama creates the Mughal era. It creates the world of romance and eternal love personified in the epic love story of the emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved Mumtaz Mahal,

  • Day 12 : Agra – Fatehpur Sikri - Jaipur

    Early morning go for a visit to the most impressive, beautiful and one in itself Taj Mahal. Popular as being the proud of India, Taj Mahal tells its true love story and makes it the only symbol of love and eternity. Return back to hotel for breakfast, after check out, drive to the pink city of Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri. Capital of Mughal Empire Akbar between 1571 and 1585, however, he could not make it capital for long, due to the scarcity of water also known as the ghost city, and later shifted to Agra. From here, we continue our drive to Jaipur. On arrival, check into your hotel. Evening we will drive to Chokhi dhani – an artificial village, which is created to give the feel of real villages. You will see here the people in the traditional colourful dresses, snake charmers, traditional dancers, magician, enjoy camel ride, elephant ride, tonga ride, puppet shows, followed by the typically Rajasthan food served in the Rajasthan style. Overnight stay in the hotel at Jaipur.

  • Day 13 : Jaipur sightseeing

    The pink city of Jaipur is the picturesque capital of Rajasthan and a colourful show case of Rajashani architecture. Today we will proceed towards the Amber For situated atop the Aravalli hills, a fine example of luxury palace, which was a residence of Rajput Maharajas and their families. The fort is styled with the semi precious stones and mirror work; a fine example can be seen at Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace). He will ride on the elephants back to reach inside the Amber Fort. Later enjoy the heart attracting sightseeing tour of Jaipur including Palace of Winds or Hawa Mahal (built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh for royal ladies of their house, to watch the day to day activities taking place out of the palace), Jantar Mantar Observatory (as the name say jantar means instrument and mantar mean formula, was built by Sawai Jai Singh to study the astronomical system) and City Palace museum (once the residence of Maharaja of Jaipur, the places to visit here are Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal now museums and open to visitors, Diwan I aam (hall for public), Diwan I khas (hall to meet special people like ministers). Overnight stay at hotel.

  • Day 14 : Jaipur - Delhi

    Following a leisurely morning, we will drive to Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi, check into your hotel Rest of the day is free in Delhi for last minute shopping etc and packing. Overnight stay in the hotel

  • Day 15 : Delhi – Departure

    In time you will be transferred to the airport to board onward flight.
