Arrive at the Guwahati Airport and undertake a road journey to Shillong. Make a visit to the 5th century AD Kamakhya temples at Nilachal Hill en route. Proceed to Cherapunjee, one of the wettest places on earth. This is the only place in India to get rainfall throughout the year. Spend some time in the Myllien village of blacksmiths. Explore the Khasi/Garo/Jaintia artifacts at a museum near Ram Krishna Mission in Cherapunjee. Visit the Cherra Bazaar, the Nohkalikai Falls and the Mawsmai limestone caves before heading to Nameri, which is known for the Nameri National Park. Enjoy viewing a variety of wildlife species here. Cross the border into Arunachal Pradesh to reach Dirang where you can indulge in soft trekking and spend some quality time in beautiful orchards. Make a visit to the picturesque Sangti Valley and then proceed to Tawang, immensely blessed with bounties of nature. Take a sightseeing tour of Tawang, visit Buddhist monasteries and get back to Dirang.
Your next halt is Tezpur. Say goodbye to Arunachal Pradesh and step into Assam. Hills, lakes, gardens and sites of religious significance abound in Tezpure. Explore it all before getting ready for an adventure-packed wildlife safari into the dense forests of the Kaziranga National Park. Drive to Guwahai and get back home.
Arrive at Guwahati airport and take a three hour long beautiful drive to Shillong through adventures curves and thick pine grow. On the way visit 5th century AD Kamakhya temples at Nilachal Hill which cater to different sects i.e. Tantrik, Sakta and Saiva. Reach Shillong and stay in the hotel.
In the morning after breakfast head to Cherrapunjee enroute stopping at Myllien village of blacksmiths. Later enjoy a photo stop for the magnificent view of deep gorge at Mawkdok valley. 11 km before Sohrarim you will see the magnificent megaliths. Near Cherrapunjee you can find a Ram Krishna Mission, established in 1913. This place has an interesting museum with Khasi/Garo/Jaintia artefacts. By-passing the main Cherra bazaar, proceed to view the Nohkalikai Falls, said to be the fourth highest falls in the world. Return to main Cherra and view the Mawsmai limestone caves. The limestone cave is narrow and the less adventurous can view stalactites from little inside the entrance. In months of April when the orchid blooms you can opt to visit the Thangalang Park, which has a greenhouse. Return to Shillong for stay.
Bordering the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, situated on the bank of river Jia Bhoroli, Nameri National Park is home to the white winged duck, Sambhar, Barking Deer, Hog Deer and Elephants. The national park also has over 350 species of birds and the species found here commonly are White winged wood duck, Great Pied Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Rufous Necked Hornbill, Black Stork, Ibis Bill, Large Whistling Teal, Common Mergernser, King Vulture, Long Billed Ring Plover, Khallej Pheasant, Hill Myna, Pin tailed green Pigeon, Himalayan pied Kingfisher, Three Toed kingfisher, Fairly Blue Bird etc. Angling is regulated and is permitted strictly on a catch, record and release basis. Sporting fish found are Golden Masheer, Saal (Murral) Gorua (Goonch), the Indian trout and the Chocolate Mahseer. In the West Kemeng district of Arunachal Pradesh, Dirang is a small town. To reach Dirang you will cross the border into Arunachal Pradesh and commence an uphill drive enroute visiting the upper and lower Gompa, local market, museum, emporium etc. A visit to Tipi Orchid Park on the way is worth as it houses more than 500 species here which is the widest assortment of orchids found in the country. Dirang is an ideal please for soft adventure like trekking, hiking etc and the place is famous for its beautiful apple orchards, hot springs and sheep breeding farms.
This morning you will visit Sangti Valley which is one of the seasonal homes of the majestic creature called the black-necked crane that flies across from China and perhaps Leh, right into its laps. Our activities today also include a visit to the sheep breeding centre, Dirang gompa, horticulture garden, Yak research centre, Dirang village and if time permits also the Khaso village.
The spectacular drive from Dirang to to Tawang will leave you speechless and you will surely remember it as one of the highlights of your journey to Northeast India. Take a halt at the Sela pass at a height of 14000 ft. during the drive you will find many good photo-stops to capture the natural beauty in your camera. Stay at Tawang.
A full day trip of Tawang town includes a visit to the 300 year old Tawang Monastery. This gompa or monastery is considered to be the oldest in India and second largest Monastery in entire Asia after the monastery in Lhasa, Tibet. Standing at a height of 12000ft. on the spur of a hill the monastery accommodates over 500 monks and houses priceless Buddhist texts and scriptures. The Tibetan influence here is unmistakable, with the elaborately painted wooden windows and other motifs. You will also see the 8 meter high gilded statue of Buddha. Later also visit the high altitude lakes including famous Pangong Tang Tso lake. Before returning to your hotel you can also pay a visit to the Craft Centre and traditional Monpa Village.
Drive back to Dirang and spot more spectacular sights you must have missed while driving to Tawang. For a local flavour eat local cuisine and stop on the way to interact with the locals for an enhanced experience.
On the north bank of the Brahmaputra river, Tezpur a beautiful and multifaceted city steeped in mythology and history abounds in archaeological sites, hills, lakes and gardens. This morning the return journey to the plains continues as at Bhalukpong you bid farewell to Arunachal Pradesh, entering the fertile Assam plains once again. A walk in the garden early morning is a good experience as you soak in the pure air and the fresh fragrance of the tea and other flora at Tezpur. After relaxed morning you are now set to take a drive to Kaziranga National Park, crossing en route the immense bridge that spans the Brahmaputra river.The highly reputed Kaziranga National park in Assam is considered to be mini Africa in the Indian Subcontinent for its great variety of wildlife species. One horned Rhino is a special attraction of this park besides other majour highlights including Eastern Swamp Deer, Asian Elephants and Wild Asiatic water Buffalo.
Early morning take a jungle trip on an elephant's back in search of the Rhino. The most enjoyable jungle activity at Kaziranga, this ride get you an opportunity to see the wildlife more clearly. You can see the herds of elephants, one horned rhino and other species from very close. After breakfast also take a jeep ride into the jungle to the Eastern range. The Eastern Range is good for water birds such as Falcated Teal, White-eyed Pochard and Spot-billed pelican. IN the afternoon time visit the Central range where the Bengal Florican can be seen during the safari. Spend leisurely evening, enjoy Bihu dance and taste local food at your resort.
