Shivpuri is another legendary city in Madhya Pradesh, India. With minimal population coupled with some of the most exotic natural attractions, Shivpuri is a tranquil and peaceful destination. This place is also dotted with a number of historical relics & monuments of the past, which holds significance because both Hindu and Mughal Emperors ruled the area for a long time. Shivpuri city named after Lord Shiva and this serene place served the Kachhawaha Rajputs (till 1804) and later it taken over by the Scindias. This town has great significance because it is here where Tatya Tope, the great freedom fighter, was hanged to death.
Shivpuri, is a religious place as it is believed that Lord Shiva had appeared here and had spent time in this scenic town. This believe has given this town the name Shivpuri, meaning City of Lord Shiva. The dense forests of this place catered as the hunting ground to the great Mughal Emperor Akbar. As time rolled the Scindia from Gwalior won Shivpuri from Akbar.
