A small town on the Betwa River, Orchha is immersed in history and illustrates a matchless display of Mughal-influenced Rajput architecture. Established by Rudra Pratap Singh, Orchha was a princely state of central India and it underwent many upsurges & was ruled by number of dynasties. The mighty Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan won Orchha in 17th century and ruled the place from the years. In the 18th century, the Maratha army were successful in capturing all the States of Bundela other than Orchha.

Hamir Singh ruled the place between 1848 and 1874 and Maharaja Pratap Singh took over Orchha in the year 1874. It was under his reign that Orchha underwent maximum development. And finally after independence, Orchha became a part of Madhya Pradesh state.

From tourist point of view, Orchha is a tiny farming town dotted with historical sites, which have etched its mark on global map. Some of the most popular places for sightseeing here are Fort Complex (Raj Mahal - Jehangir Mahal - Rai Parveen Mahal), Ram Raja temple - presiding Deity here is Lord Ram, Chaturbhuj Temple, Raj Mandir, Dauji ki Haveli, Chhatris (Royal Cenotaphs), Laxminarayan temple, Phool Bagh, Sunder Mahal are few other places that cannot be missed by any tourist travelling here.
