Established by Rudra Pratap Singh, Orchha was a princely state of central India and it underwent many upsurges & was ruled by number of dynasties. The mighty Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan won Orchha in 17th century and ruled the place from the years. In the 18th century, the Maratha army were successful in capturing all the States of Bundela other than Orchha.
Hamir Singh ruled the place between 1848 and 1874 and Maharaja Pratap Singh took over Orchha in the year 1874. It was under his reign that Orchha underwent maximum development. And finally after independence, Orchha became a part of Madhya Pradesh state.
From tourist point of view, Orchha is a tiny farming town dotted with historical sites, which have etched its mark on global map.
