Trading Center of Bygone Era… A Commercial Power of Present Day

A big city and also known as the commercial powerhouse, Indore stores much more than known. This city charms visitors with its enriching cultural heritage that has been preserved over centuries and also makes good space for urbanization and commerce. Indore has always been ahead of any Indian city in terms of development in this era of modernization. The city maintains its connection with its glorious past amidst all industrial activities and this attracts tourists. Indore was ruled by one of the greatest women leaders of Indian history, Rani Ahilyabai Holkar. She took the responsibility of Indore at a very tender age and worked real hard in planning and building this city. History sights that 14 generations of the Holkar dynasty ruled Indore and in 1948 it was merged with the Indian republic.

Indore is flocked in by business travelers primarily, nevertheless the splendid monuments and its rich heritage has laid a path for culture & heritage tourism. The buildings created by the Holkar dynasty have been the prime attractions here. Rajawada is said to be the heart of Indore city and it stands tall as a witness to the splendors of the Holkar era. It is a 200 year old seven-story palace by the Holkars made using the best of Muslim, Maratha and French architecture styles; Lal Baag Palace is another prime attraction here. This is one of the most dignified monuments the Holkar dynasty in Indore. Its construction started in 1886 and was completed in 1921. Other touristy places that have kept visitors amused include the Bada Ganpati temple with 25 feet tall & brightly painted statue, the Central Museum with medieval Hindu and Jain sculptures and Parmar sculptures from Hinglajgarh, Kanch Mandir with its architectural marvel, Town Hall (1904) with Indo-Gothic architecture, Bapna Statue, Chhatris or cenotaphs in memory of Holkar rulers, Khajrana Ganesh Temple, Gomatgiri, Venkatesh Temple (Laxmi Venkatesh Temple), Geeta Bhawan; Sipur Lake, Bijasan Devi Temple, Annapurna Temple and Chokhi Dhani. Farther towards southwest of Indore is Patal Pani, a mesmerizing waterfall.

Indore’s bustling bazaars, awesome eating joints and good hotels adds to the tour comfort. This place also serves as a gateway to Mandu, Maheshwar or Omkareshwar.
