The Fairytale Village of Sangla Valley

Nestled between Chitkul and Karcham, Sangla is a small town in Himachal Pradesh, busy with hustling markets and concrete constructions meeting the need of shops, hotels & restaurants. Nevertheless, the beauty of Sangla lies in the Baspa River valley downhill the town. The green valley with river Baspa rippling adds to the real beauty of Sangla. The river meanders along the wooded valley and villages surrounded by deodhar, birch and pine forest creating picture perfect views. The Sangla Valley has a distinct beauty with lush green meadow that stretches across kilometers from east to west and is fringed by snow-capped peaks. The downhill slopes have a riot of colours created by a mix forest of autumn shaded tress, green pine trees, and crops in terraces. Considered as one of the most beautiful valleys in India, Sanga in Tibetan language means “pass of light” referring that this valley receives ample sunlight in the day.

Trekking to cover the valley and its periphery, enjoy the view of the majestic Kinner Kailash peak. If you are good at trekking go for the Rakcham trek. This is a glacier trek that will take you to the snowy zone of the mountains. Angling is another popular activity here in river Bapsa, which is known for its Trout. The crystal clear water of the river is great to watch school of trout and other fishes. There is a saffron farm nearby and a trip to the outskirt is wonderful.

Other places that keep tourists engaged here are the 800 years old Kamru Fort, Kamakshi Devi Temple, Bering Nag Temple, Tibetan wood carving center, and a Monastery. The local Fulaich Fair is held between August and September every year and is a festival of flowers. Traditional dances, songs and loads of funfair during the fair is an extravaganza of Kinnauri culture. Sangla is often preferred as a base or stay over option by tourists who intent to visit nearby places such as Chitkul, Batseri, Karchem, & Kalpa. A trip to the Baspa Dam Reservoir is a must for beautiful views.
