Bhavnagar is an economically developing town in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, India. Located at the southernmost part of Gujarat, Bhavnagar is regarded as a cultural hub of the state. Bhavnagar was set up in 1724 by Bhavsinhji Gohil as a new capital near Vadva village. The location of this new capital was strategically chosen owing to its potential for trading via sea route.
In 1807, the British took over Bhavnagar and this old town was a fortified town with gates and served as a central connection with other nearby places. Bhavnagar was an indispensable trading location for more than two centuries and traded commodities with far-fetched places such as Persian Gulf, Mozambique, Singapore and Zanzibar.
Tourism here is not very highlighted, but people who have visited this place have enjoyed their holidays here. Sightseeing here includes Blackbuck National Park, Palitana pilgrimage center for Jains, Takhteswar Temple - white marble temple built on hill, Akshar Temple, Victoria Park, Gaurishankar Lake / Bor Talav, Adhyatmik Sadhana Kendra and some other places of local interest.
Bhavnagar is very famous for its version of 'Ganthiya', a popular Gujarati snack. Food lovers should try the famous Gujrati Thali, Fafadiya Ganthiya, Pav Ganthiya, Bateta Bhungala, and Soda in different flavors.
