Kurnool, The Gateway of Rayalaseema in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh is a place of plenteous historical imprints. Blessed with beautiful natural surroundings, Kurnool, is a small town in Andhra Pradesh where one can just relax, unwind and enjoy the remains of bygone eras. This small town is the house to the remains of the palace of the last Hindu king Gopal Raju. The relics of the antiquated fort, which was built by Vijaynagar Empire, has beautiful ancient Persian and Arabic inscriptions. Today’s Kurnool blends religious and historical significance with modern developments and houses some sacred of temples like the Peta Anjanyeswami temple, the Venugopalaswami temple and more. The Belum caves, Birla Mandir, Oravakallu Rock Garden, Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary, Tomb of Abdul Wahab are other major tourist attractions. Kunool also has a protected monument, the Kondareddy Buruz, which is protected by the Ancient Monuments Preservation Act. Believed to be a 2000 years old city, Kurnool is a pace to explore for every history buff.

For wild life enthusiasts, the Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary is a must visit here. Spread across 614sq kms area, this sanctuary takes you into the wild much close to the nature for a real experience amidst diverse species of flora and fauna. Founded 1988, Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary is a home to the endangered species of The Great Indian Bustard and Lesser Florican. The Tomb of Abdul Wahab, situated on the banks of River Handri has elaborate and intricate workmanship of the bygone era. This 17th century tomb houses beautifully made majestic domes, verandahs, passages, arches and more, worthy to be visited. Another popular touristy place here is Yaganti, which is popular for Sri. Yagantiswamy Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this is an artfully done temple that depicts the deep-rooted Shiva Cult in Andhra Pradesh. The temple’s sanctorum houses the idol of Ardhanareeswara i.e., Shiva and Parvathi together. This idol is made from a single stone and is a carved to perfection with attention to every detail. This temple is from 5th and 6th centuries made by the contributions received from Cholas, Chalukyas, Pallavas, and Vijayanagara rulers. This Kurnool region is also a part of the Buddha trail in India. There is a more than life-size Buddha statue in white stone here, which exemplifies Buddhist & Jain remains, here.
