An Insight into New Delhi Tourism

The Urbane Land of India…

Cosmopolitan New Delhi is a striking amalgamation of cultures, traditions, political centralization, and architectural brilliance. Built in 1911, New Delhi was planned to be spacious and was carefully planned so that the new city would match in every way with its yesteryear’s remnants. It was Lutyens and Baker, who planned the city with meticulous attention to every detail. The wide avenues with tree-fringed roads, the 340-roomed Vice regal Lodge, now Rashtrapati Bhawan on Raisina Hill and the entire plan of New Delhi was world class. Nearby the Rashtrapati Bhawan stands tall the monument of India’s pride India Gate, which is a World War I memorial. On every Republic Day of India, then then planned & constructed Rajpath witnesses a display of grandeur of Indian gallantry & civic achievement. Every proud state of India and government departments bring forth its achievements and cultural & social heritage in forms of ornamented and lavishly decorated tableaux. The engrossing republic day parade is indeed an experience of lifetime. Also the Parliament House, the National Museum and the National Gallery of Modern Art are near to Rashtrapati Bhawan. Delhi's architectural heritage can also be traced back to 4th century AD. It was the Qutub Minar’s Iron Pillar, built in that era, which has no sign of corrosion yet. Delhi has innumerable monuments including Purana Qila, Humayun Tomb, Jantar Mantar, and many others that showcase both architectural and historical grandeur.

Along with history & heritage, New Delhi has several religious places. Sufi shrines, medieval age mosques, revered Sikh gurdwaras, famous Hindu Temple and intricately made Jain temples extend through the city. ISKCON Temple, Kalkaji Temple, Chhattarpur Durga Temple, Laxmi Narayan Temple/ Birla Mandir and others are some of the beautiful temples here. However, Delhi's magic lies in the Sufi shrines & Mughal era mosques like the Jama Masjid, Hazrat Nizammudin Dargah, Moth Ki Masjid and Chiragh-I-Delhi Dargah.

The Gurudwaras here like the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and Gurudwara Sri Nanak Piao Sahib are popularly visited. Other places of religious interest in Delhi are the Akshardham Temple, the Lotus temple, Ramakrishna Mission, Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Cathedral of the Sacred Heartland the St. James Church.
