Transportation in Bhutan I When to visit Bhutan I Major Attractions in Bhutan I Tour Package of Bhutan

Bhutan People, max holidays, bhutan tour, bhutan travel, bhutan tour package, bhutan tours information, packages of bhutan, india travel agent, india tour agent, bhutan pepoleLying between India and China, the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan measures only 110 miles from the north to south and 200 miles from east to west. However, the land, its people and their culture are distinct from one region to another. An absolute monarchy, Bhutan is also known as DrukYul or 'the Land of the Thunder Dragon' has retained the traditional heritage of the past. It is the only country in the world to continue to follow the traditional Himalayan Buddhist culture.

People, Lifestyle & Culture of Bhutan- Religion of around three fourth of the Bhutanese population is Lamaistic Buddhism with the restone fourth being India and Nepalese influenced Hindus. As far as ethinic division of the country is concerned, almost fifty percent of the population is Bhote, thirty five percent ethnic Nepalese and the rest fifteeen percent indegenous and migrant tribes. Though Bhutan is the last country to follow the traditional Himalayan Buddhist culture, it isby no means a backward country wrapped in the mist of ignorance. So, do not be surprised if you find monks rewriting the ancient Buddhist text into laptop computers! The people of Bhutan still live in valleys and wear their traditional clothes (Men's attire is known as 'Gho' while the women's dress is known as 'Kira'. These people are warm and friendly and believe in greeting their guests in traditional manner. They are well educated with 42% of them being literate (however, women are far behind both in terms of education and employment). The languages spoken in the country includes Dzongkha ( this is an official language), Tibetandialects (among Bhotes), Nepalese dialects (among Nepalese). Agricultureis the predominat occupation and mode of earning for the people of Bhutan.

Dance, music, painting or for that matter any other form of art is heavily influenced by Buddhism. The rules laid down for these are strict and practically unchangeable. The most important festival of the country is Tsechus. Food in Bhutan is also traditional with plenty of chillies. Non vegetarian food are generally not liked by the foreigners because they are decayed and thusinsipid. This is so because there is niether a slaughter house nor a cold storage in Bhutan. Vegetarian food is muh more preferred with emadatse being the most popular. Tourists can also try out momos(dumplings) and thukpa (noodles).

Transportation in Bhutan
Getting There - Bhutan's only airport is situated in Paro. Tourists need to board Druk Air, the royal Bhutan airlines if they want to go to Bhutan by air, since no other airlines operate in the region. Druk Air [Royal Bhutan Airlines] is the national carrier of the Royal Government of Bhutan, operating to seven cities in six countries. Druk Air flies to Paro 4 times a week from Bangkok, three times a week from Kolkata, twice a week from New Delhi and Kathmandu, and once a week from Dhaka.

The road from Bagdogra (the nearest Indian airport, Sikkim) enters Bhutan at Phuentsholing, the southern border town with India. It is a3-4 hour drive from Bagdogra airport. From Darjeeling or Gangtok(Sikkim), it can take 7 hour to Phuentsholing. It takes approximately 6 hour from Phuentsholing to Thimphu or Paro. Special permission are required for this purpose.

Getting Around - Travelling in Bhutan can be done either on foot or by road. Bhutan has neither domestic Air Service, nor railway. The terrain of Bhutan is not very easy, but local transport facilities are available between the cities of Bhutan. However, foot journey through the streets is the best way to get clear access of its intrinsic beauty. For some of the villages not connected by roads, the only mode of transport is by foot or using riding ponies.
